Construction is underway on an exciting new community facility in Newry Street, Kilkeel. The project has received funding from the Big Lottery’s Space and Place programme.

The project includes a new purpose-built community centre as well as a new play area, pathways and seating providing a vital community hub for all residents. The Group behind the project is Newry Street Unite, which was formed only a few years ago and have since worked tirelessly to ensure that the community is nurtured and given the necessary investment.

Olivia Spiers and David Hunter are the Group’s Chair and Vice Chair.  Olivia commented, “We are delighted to be able to provide a brand new community facility for the Newry Street area which will benefit all the local residents. We are already firming up plans for activities to be held in the centre which we are very excited about.”

David added, “We would like to thank our funders who have supported us - the Big Lottery’s Space and Place programme and Newry, Mourne and Down Council. Thanks are also due to the Housing Executive, County Down Rural Community Network, and Supporting Communities who have also provided a great deal of help and support.”
