Tenant Participation Standards
Elevating Tenant Engagement Across Social Housing
Tenant Participation Accreditation is a robust and structured process for evaluating the extent to which landlords engage tenants and residents in their services. Our accreditation highlights that an organisation involves residents effectively and identifies opportunities for improvement.
We have designed our assessment framework to provide social landlords with an objective measurement of their tenant participation activities through four standardised levels of accreditation: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
The Criteria:
The landlord has an effective participation strategy
The landlord provides good information to tenants
There are effective tenant involvement structures
Tenants are involved in making decisions
The landlord works in partnership with tenants
Tenants are involved in the scrutiny of their landlord’s performance and self- assessment
There are sufficient resources and support to enable tenant participation
Staff have a good awareness of tenant participation
The landlord has realistic timescales for tenant participation
The landlord is committed to promoting equal opportunities
The Framework
Our Tenant Participation Accreditation framework recognises social landlords that can demonstrate excellence in tenant participation, providing an in-depth assessment of engagement practices and activities. Most importantly, accreditation can be used as a tool for continuous improvement.
This quality mark provides assurance to Boards, Executive Teams and, crucially, tenants, residents and leaseholders of social landlords that the organisation not only meets but exceeds the minimum consumer standards required by statutory regulations.
Benchmarking Excellence
As the Independent Tenant Organisation for NI, we use accreditation to help landlords raise the bar for tenant participation and exceed the minimum standards as set out in the Tenant Participation Strategy NI. It acts as a benchmark against other landlords in NI, ROI and across the UK.
Supporting Communities' Tenant Participation Standards also enable social landlords to assess their progress in meeting the Consumer Standard as determined by the Department for Communities' Regulatory Branch.
