Supporting Communities Welcomes Sean O'Connor as New Vice Chair

Sean O’Connor

Supporting Communities is happy to announce Sean O'Connor as its new Vice Chair. Sean brings over 25 years of senior leadership experience to the organisation, with an impressive background in both the corporate world and social housing. Sean is poised to help guide Supporting Communities into its next exciting chapter of growth and development.

A native of West Tyrone who now calls Omagh home, Sean brings valuable experience from his time as Director of Customer Service at Wheatley Group, where he led their Customer Service Centre and spearheaded the organisation's Digital Strategy. His expertise spans public sector governance, digital development, strategic planning, and team leadership – skills that will prove invaluable as Supporting Communities develops its new five-year strategy.

After initial conversations with CEO Colm McDaid, he recognized that his diverse skillset could benefit the organisation's mission. "Having now had my first AGM under my belt, I feel I have made the right decision," Sean shares about joining Supporting Communities.

Looking ahead, Sean sees Supporting Communities entering an exciting phase of development. "Growth and new opportunities will certainly feature in the coming year," he notes, expressing enthusiasm about the organisation's future direction.  Drawing from his operational and development experience, Sean is confident he can contribute to Supporting Communities' continued success. "There are already very talented staff and board teams in situ, so I hope I can fit in and really add value," he says.

With his extensive experience in both large multinational companies and local organisations, combined with his law degree and professional qualifications, Sean brings a wealth of knowledge to help Supporting Communities thrive in its next chapter of growth and development.

When he's not contributing his expertise to our growing charity, Sean enjoys staying active with hill-walking and weight training. He's also a self-described "very average" clay pigeon shooter who thoroughly enjoys the sport. Sean is married with three grown children and a teenage grandson.

Welcome aboard, Sean!
